    What is a Ballad?:

A ballad is a narrative poem that originally was set to music. Ballads were first created in medieval France, and the word ballad comes from the French term chanson balladée, which means “dancing song.” Ballads then became popular in Great Britain, and remained so until the nineteenth century. The meaning has changed somewhat in the present day to refer to any slow love song. As ballads were originally meant to be lyrics set to dancing music, there is a noticeable musical quality to the rhythm of the lines.

    An Example of a Ballad:

Below is a Smurftastic sample Ballad about Don Smurfo written by our very own Vintoxi! Please note, you do not have to create any images, use screenshots, or do anything other than have just use plain text to write your Medieval Ballad. Remember, above all else just have some Smurfy fun!

All someone has to do is find a well known ballad and change the lyrics like people did with xmas carols

        Here is an example

        The song wind of change

        I follow the Moskva
        Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
        An August summer night
        Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change

Here is my version of that part

        Follow all the smurfs
        Down to smurfs village
A place of peace and tranquility
        On a calm february night
You will be made to feel very welcome
And you will hear all the smurfs sing

okay, i gave it a try, how about this?

i still can't comprehend the style of ballad, so i made it quite freely. ( and borrowed a few lines from a my favorite song😁)

A hundred Smurfs there are said to be,
About a few I shall tell thee.

Papa, their leader, so kind and wise,
His love binds them with invisible ties.

They lived at peace, in a land so green,
The loveliest land thou hast ever seen.

The fields were rich, the valleys fair,
The sweet scent of flowers filled the air.

But into this land, darkness came,
A selfish wizard with a horrible name.

He hunted the Smurfs, he chased them far and wide,
The poor terrified Smurfs found few places to hide.

They ran and ran and ran some more,
The poor Smurfs were frightened to their core.

At long last, a refuge they found,
They basked in joy as they gathered round.

A new village we will build, Papa said,
This will be a safe place to lay your head.

As the Smurfs toiled and worked so hard,
They felt they still had to remain on guard.

          Baker baked and Timber built,
          While Papa fought his guilt.

So many were lost, would they be found?
Or would their bones litter the ground?

But one by one, the miracles came,
And Papa joyfully called them by name.

Jokey and Brainy, Lucky and Clown,
I knew you would not let me down.

Dreamy and Chilly and Grouchy too,
I am ever so glad to see you.

Miner and Farmer, you work so hard,
You bring joy to this simple bard.

Smurfette, you are here and Baby as well,
You are very welcome in this new dell.

Clumsy and Handy come as a pair,
While Harmony’s music fills the air.

Wooly and Vanity, Sweepy and Tailor,
I am so glad that wizard is not your jailer.

Gutsy and Hefty with Scaredy in tow,
Bring along Painter and his vibrant rainbow.

          Detective searches while Cowboy rides,
Magician is tricky and Lazy hides.

Nat with his flowers, Flying with his planes,
Editor takes notes, while Fireman fights flames.

So many Smurfs have found their way,
This is indeed a joyful day.

More will come, this truth I know,
Our village has a long way to go.

We are not finished, we are not done,
So many battles still to be won.

Enemies lurk, both near and far,
And we know just who they are.

          Gargamel and his evil cat,
Hold the blame for where we are at.

Hogatha and the spells she doth cast,
The results of which leave us agast.

          Morpho and his steed Nightmare,
          Spread terror without a care.

Great are those that wish us ill,
Yet here we are, safe upon this hill.

For a power we have, a power so great,
A strength that does not come from hate.

Love and courage and a faith so strong,
My little Smurfs can triumph when things go wrong.

They laugh and love, care and sing,
When together, they can do anything.

          This is the end Azrael,

          My only friend,
          The end....of our smurfy plans,
          The end....of everything that stands,
          The end....of my smurfy surprise,
The end...I'll never look into your eyes,
The end... Of evil gargamel will be no more.

can you picture what will be Azrael,
          so limitless and free,
I need some love Azrael more than you can give,
Desperately in need of some smurfy love,
          In a desperate smurfy land,
I'm lost in a Roman wilderness of pain,
but all of papa's smurfy are insane
all the children are insane Azrael,
waiting for me to bring on the smurfy summer rain.

Here is mine please excuse grammatical errors thank you.

This is a ballad between Timber Smurf and Smurfette in my village they are together. The name is

          Love is True Blue

          Timber to Smurfette

A rose is red, violets are purple so what is this smurf to do.
I do declare these words to you.
Red, orange, yellow green are all but lovely colors you see.
Rays of sunshine on my face thinking of your warm embrace.
When we met so long ago, I knew my love was blue for you.

          Smurfette to Timber

I do declare these words to you.
To the moon and back you make me swoon.
Talks and walks to the Grove we go so you can pick a rose.
Red, orange, yellow, green these are all but lovely things.
When we met so long ago, I know my love was blue for you.
Blue Love, blue blue love, forever is our color.
          True Blue Love

A ballad from smurfs to Gargamel..

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When all smurfs must stand together as one
          Gargamel is coming
We are losing our village and homes

We can't keep pretending day by day
That someone, someday will come to the rescue
We are all part of the smurfs great big family
          And the truth, you know
          Love is all we need

We are blue, we are smurfs
We are the ones who make a brighter day
          So lets start loving
          There's a choice we're making
          We're saving our own lives

Sending Gargamel our heart so he'll know that someone cares
And his live will be stronger and free
As papa has shown us by turning stones to bread
So we must teach Gargamel to love

We are blue, we are smurfs
We do not fight to kill our enemies
We must show love and compassion
For we'll get the same in return

Okay, I know that any ballad worth its ale has to have at least 86 stanzas, so I might get disqualified for keeping mine so short. But here it is:

It was a fine May morning
          Not far into the day
When on a proud black stallion
A knight rode up to say:

          “Methought I saw a maiden
          In yonder tower there.
She looked out to the valley
          And combed her golden hair.

She sang a song so sweetly
          Of lovers torn apart
          By Fate’s unyielding power -
It would but break my heart!

          A dragon fierce and fiery
          Has come to rest below.
          It frightens every being
          Including her fair beaux.

          But I’ve heard wondrous stories
Of a village filled with smurfs.
          Among them one so valiant,
          He’ll never lose his nerves.

I’ve come to you to ask you
          Where is this valiant knight?
          For with him I’m emboldened
And sure to win the fight.”

“You’ve come to the right village.
          Sir Hefty is your man.
If no one else can do it,
          Sir Hefty always can.”

The smurfs all gathered on the meadow,
Filled with both pride and fear
That one of their brave fellows
Should fight and become a her- ...

“Oh no! What’s that I’m hearing?
A roar so loud and mean!
I’m not so sure that fighting
Is meant for smurfs so green

          In battle field experience.
          We need a different plan
          With better chances of success
          To procure the dragon’s ban.”

And Papa Smurf turned round to look
          What happened to our lad:
Sir Hefty lay upon the ground,
Eyes closed, and looked like dead.

Dear Papa Smurf did not lose hope
And grabbed him by the nose.
For lack of air, he took a breath
          And soon thereafter rose.

A bit confused after his spell,
          Sir Hefty looked around
At all his smurfy friends until
The right one he had found.

“In all the dark a light I saw -
Or rather heard a blast -
          Of Harmony’s shiny trumpet,
          In power unsurpassed!

What if instead of using force
          We send a mighty tune
Of notes towards the dragon lair.
          He’ll vanish, oh, so soon!”

          With Harmony still wond’ring
          If dragons music hate,
          The other smurfs were cheering:
          “Wow, this idea is great!”

They marched through dale and forest
          Until they reached the place
Where the fierce fiend was resting
          Near the old tower’s base.

The trumpet was put to action
And made a noise so harsh,
The dragon thought the end was nigh
          And vanished into the marsh.

The happy smurfs started to call:
          “Smurfette, Smurfette, come down!
The coast is clear, you need not fear,
The beast from here has flown!”

They tried the door, but it was locked.
          They settled down to wait.
“Maybe Smurfette does need a while
To be able to see straight.”

After a bit the smurfs began
To send up a loud call:
“Smurfette, Smurfette, smurf down your hair!
          This tower’s not that tall.”

But soon they came to realize
          They got their story wrong.
And now, a bit at loss for words,
They made a sigh so long.

          Expectantly they stood outside
          And waited for a sign
That Smurfette had heard the news
And would climb down the vine.

          But nothing stirred, not e’en a mouse;
          The minutes turned to hours.
          Impatiently, the smurfs began
          To look for different powers.

Sir Hefty was again the choice
          for lack of volunteers.
He prepared to run against the door,
          Accompanied by cheers.

But just before the big impact,
          The door opened up wide.
          Smurfette appeared with puzzled eyes,
          She blushed and stepped outside.

“Oh, deary me, my lovely smurfs,
          Have you been waiting long?
          I was a damsel in distress -
          I heard most awful song.

I had to do whate’er it took,”
          Smurfette said with a smile,
“I had to smurf stuff in my ears.
Taking it out smurfed quite a while!”

All cheered and danced and jumped with joy
To see her safe and sound.
Sir Hefty got a special kiss,
          And they were homeward bound.

At night, our smurfs and the knight, too,
          Sat all around the fire
To celebrate and sing some songs -
          After hiding Harmony’s lyre.

The night drew on, all settled down
          Around the fire’s glow.
“I’m sure you know some stories, too!”
“Yes,” said the knight, “and it goes so:

It was a fine May morning
Not far into in the day...

A ballad from Hefty to his fellow smurfs.

United we stand, divided we fall
That's how it is in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land
Forever we'll stay together and strong
Growing up in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land

Say, smurfs are your best friends
By your side until the end
Always there to lend a hand
And do all they can, yeah

          See, smurfs stand tall
All for one and one for all
I, Hefty, will do what a smurf could
To make it good in my smurfy land

United we stand, divided we fall
That's how it is in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land
Forever we'll stay together and strong
Growing up in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land

I will be there for them
          Whenever they are in need
          We share a common land
          I learned it from papa
And taught it to my fellow smurfs

          Life may be hard
And it has its ups and downs
There's no need to worry 'bout a thing
Cause Hefty is always here to lend a hand

United we stand, divided we fall
That's how it is in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land
Forever we'll stay together and strong
Growing up in the smurfy land
In the smurfy land, smurfy land

          That special bond
That holds us all as one
Makes me feel, tall and strong

Just for laughs by Lazy.. 😂

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like stepping out of my house
So leave a message at the door
Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

          I'm gonna open the window
          Then stare at smurfette
Send her cat whistle, and sing her a love song
          Nobody's gonna tell me I can't

I'll be fishing by the pond
Just chillin' in the cool breeze
Holding on tight to my rod
          Hoping to catch some fishes
Not boots, not weeds, definitely not nothing
Something to feed my hungry tummy

          Oh yes, I did it
          I did it
I did it cause I can

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like stepping out of my house
So leave a message at the door
Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

Tomorrow I'll wake up, paint some walls
Meet pretty smurfette, have a really nice date
And she's gonna scream out: 'you are great!"

I might mess around, and still get things done
I bet papa will be so proud of me
But sorry papa, you'll just have to wait

          Oh yes, I did it
          I did it
I did it cause I can

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like stepping out of my house
So leave a message at the door
Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

No I ain't gonna brush my teeth
          Cause I ain't going anywhere
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
I'll just strut in my pyjamas
          And let everything hang loose
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like stepping out of my house
So leave a message at the door
Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything

          Nothing at all....
